This movie is a musical biography of the Four Seasons, the rise, the tough times and personal clashes, and the ultimate triumph of a group of friends whose music became symbolic of a generation. Far from a mere tribute concert (though it does include numbers from the popular Four Seasons songbook), this movie gets to the heart of the relationships at the center of the group, with a special focus on frontman Frankie Valli (John Lloyd Young), the small kid with the big falsetto. In addition to following the quartet’s coming-of-age as performers, the core of this movie is how an allegiance to a code of honor learned in the streets of their native New Jersey got them through a multitude of challenges: gambling debts, Mafia threats, and family disasters. This movie is a glimpse at the people behind a sound that has managed to endure for over four decades in the hearts of the public.
Stars : John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda

Definitely not the best Clint Eastwood has to offer. It is surprisingly safe, and basically just follows the script of the musical. The reason why I give it a mild recommendation is I like the music, and there are enough songs in here to keep me through to the end. The period look is also captured pretty well. And I liked the actors playing Tommy and Frankie. From a storytelling perspective, it lacks a bit. And it bugged me that Clint had to put a shot in there of a character watching one of his movies.

Clint Eastwood usually is fantastic behind the camera, this is not one of those times. This tells the story of the Four Seasons from their struggling start all the way through their entire career. The problem is with the pacing, after I felt like the film should be wrapping up, it was only halfway through and felt like an eternity already. It is just too slow moving. The performances are mostly ok, no one really sticks out. Christopher Walken is wasted in a role too small for this caliber of actor. A solid story with the wrong person directing the film.

This rags to riches story is an amicable one even for a non musical lover like myself however I have seen the west end show which is much better than this retelling. The fact of the matter is, the movie gives very little more than the theatre production, instead the level of acting from the Four Season actors themselves feels amateurish and scenes with music are actually shortened and feel more like an afterthought. It follows the musical closely right down to the script, but mixing the layout up a bit which isn't really for the better either. Its a decent watch nonetheless and would be much better if you haven't endured the film in another form yet Eastwood has put in little effort with this one.
