Electra Woman and Dyna Girl (2016)

I found this movie by sheer accident. A cross b/w ‘The tick’ and ‘Mystery Men’. As a huge, life long superhero fan, I really liked this movie. The good.. Both lead girls were endearing and really well cast.  They worked really well together and the rapport between the two made the movie. The fight scenes were awesome and both girls looked like they could really kick ass. Would have loved to have seen heaps more of these scenes. The not so good… The story was very predictable from the first 5 minutes. Even the identity of the supervillain was of no surprise. As mentioned, great fight scenes however, they were very sparse with the movie focusing on cliché character / relationship development. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and enjoyable viewing. I would have liked to have seen this as a longer movie with more villain battles and more money invested. Both Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart carried the movie and made it worth watching. Hope they do a sequel but hopefully with a bigger budget and a better story line to showcase the two great lead characters.

I watched the original show in the 1970s – and I discovered this when looking-up the original online. The trailer looked funny, so I ordered the DVD immediately. The movie does not disappoint. I rarely laugh out loud (or sit through an entire movie for that matter). This was great: funny, clever, goofy … I wouldn’t mind seeing more, but they’d have to step carefully – this first effort is too good to be dragged-down by a mediocre sequel.
