Just when you think Hollywood could not be more out of touch with the real world, we are given a film about rich, married, famous celebrities who have no idea what real stress men truly go through. This movie full of “proud fathers” who just wanna push a nonsensical narritive, while living a luxurious lifestyle, oblivious to what stress, anxiety, pain and trials actual men go through. Not only that, but it flat out ignores them. It ignores the reality that the justice system is very much against men, as so many struggle every day, not only to make a living, pay our bills, hold on to what we still have, but to see our children that so many fathers lose in courts. These lecturers including Will Smith, Jimmy Kimmel, and Patton Oswalt try to talk to the camera as if “theyre just like us!”. In reality, they do not know, nor will ever know or care to know what its like to live a real life and struggle every day with finances including child support and very few child visitations. Bryce Dallas Howard tries her best to give, what she thinks, is an independent Oscar nominating documentary while shes spent her entire career riding on the coattails of her father. This movie does no one any favors. If anyone wants to see a REAL film on actual fathers, and what they really go through on a daily basis, watch The Red Pill. Simple little film about dads. I thought it was going to be celebrity dads – Will Smith, Conan O’Brien, Neil Patrick Harris, etc. – but they get fairly little screen time as they make zingers about fatherhood. This is a joke.Being a rich dad and raising kids gets no where close to reality. These privileged children haven’t a clue about anything in real life. Hollywood needs to quit trying to blend and act like they are part of the real world. Hollywood is going downhill fast and I can’t wait for their demise. But the meat of the doc is a quintet of less famous dads in various circumstances around the world, talking about the joys and challenges of raising kids. There are a lot of tears in the movie, and dads (including this one) may find themselves tearing up a bit as well. I originally started to watch this documentary thinking it would be an insiders look into the fatherhood of various celebrities, and while there are quips from many I was surprised to find that the meat of the documentary was instead a look into various everyday fathers from around the world. All in all I would recommend watching this with an open heart, because there are moments where you can feel these men’s love and pride for their children. I definitely got emotional at times (although this could’ve stemmed from lacking a good connection with my own dad) and felt happy for my own future in parenthood. Really, most is about the Howard family, and not that interesting. Very little about the real struggles some dads go through. Also the dads in here are mostly quite priviliged. Would have been better with a topic divided series, that touch on some real issues. They all give very nice and sweet but ultimately forgettable advice.
